Catching up, part 3

April 26
Late night show…..

Spent the entire day in bed - literally. I was not sick, just relishing having almost an entire day of having to be nowhere at all. Finally at 9p I had to get out the door to head to Milwaukee to see The Cave Singers play at the Cactus Club. They didn’t go on til midnight (so I suppose technically, this photo wasn’t taken on the 26th? ;) and I was a tired girl.

And it was dark - they had them turn the lights down low. So very few good shots.

But a nice lazy day nonetheless.

So proud…….

This is my dear dear friend Lana, who did her first triathlon on Sunday.  And in just about every picture I have of her she is smiling.  And every time she passed anyone or anyone passed her she cheered them on and smiled some more.  She finished 8 minutes ahead of her goal, and is already talking about the next one.  Either she’s crazy, or she’s on to something.  We’ll see come July, when I’m signed up to do the next one with her.  If I can tear myself away from Flickr long enough to train.

New haircut!

We went to four places before finding a salon that could get her in for a cut and though all the cool local places were booked up, Supercuts did a just fine job getting her some bangs and a trim.  Her ends were so ratty, they had to take a good three inches off just to get to healthy.  But her curls and the bangs (which ended up more fashionably short than here) look adorable.

So, a question for ya’all - do the eyes need to be in focus to make a strong photograph?  The next pic I snapped is more in focus, but I liked this one better.  The movement.  It would have been grand to have been able to get the slight blur of movement with the eyes in focus, but alas, it did not happen.

Let me know your thoughts, and maybe I’ll post the other too.

Learning Lessons

This boy is so beautiful. I know at some point no matter how funky liberal we all are, we’ll probably feel the need to quit using beautiful in conjunction with him, but for now, well, he’s just beautiful.

I was using the 50mm 1.8 today, and boy did I learn my lesson about being too close! The DOF was so in tune that only one eye was in focus for a great many of the shots. Live and learn.

Smell my feet!

Oh yea, the sandals came out and the socks went away. Hinu was goofing around here and I was playing with the 50mm and I snapped it. Loving the DOF with this lens!

Adoration

Hinu and the birthday girl.

Learned alot at tonight’s birthday party about using the white balance settings - moving from cloudy to incandescent to fluorescent and playing with the settings was interesting.  I didn’t get it right on this shot, so played around in PS and though it isn’t perfect, I love the expressions.

Funny………..

Funny how a blanket can smell like home when it hasn’t been ‘home’ in over a decade.

And yes, I’ve washed it.   ;)

Twas a melancholy stormy solitary lovely moody evening.

And the Mermaid expands!

This is one of my favorite eastside joints - they make the yummiest spicy and not-too-sweet chai and the most oddball/incredible breakfast sandwich with eggs, cheese, tomato, avocado and curry sauce.

And now they’ve put in a dining room! We went and I was cranking around most of the meal because I did not take a picture of my salad before diving in - the Pura Vida was a treat to the eyes as well as the mouth. Guess I was too hungry and I guess I’ll just have to go back!

If you haven’t been, you should totally go check it out sometime - they’re on Winnebago.

Outdoor Farmer’s Market!

The first outdoor farmer’s market on the square opened up today. Lots of non-produce items (given that it is only April) - honey, preserves, cheese, meat and bakery. People seemed to be in a good mood as they strolled/trudged/meandered around. The weather was great - no rain!

(I like this pic, except the hand coming out of (seemingly) nowhere to grab a honey stick.)

April 20th
Oh this babe…..

He is the youngest of three, and all of them are breathtakingly beautiful and photogenic.

Happy Bambino had an Earth Day celebration today - it was lots of fun with kiddos and babies and mamas and papas running around doing yoga and music, and listening to discussions about going green and buying local. Good stuff!

This day was a lovely one with lots of good folk and lots of opportunity for photos, but frustrating too. It is so hard when you want to know more-more-more about how to get the shots you want. And how easy it is to fall into the more-better-spend mode of thinking that more equipment will make the pictures happen.

Sigh, with time, I can afford it. And in the meantime, I learn more about how to work with what I’ve got.

How’d that happen so fast?!

Walked to the school playground with my girl and some of her friends this afternoon and lo and behold, check this tree! The kids had a blast collecting petals from the ground (not only is it already in full bloom, but its already losing petals) and they smelled lovely.

Yawlrighty

Coming up for a breath of air.

Had a few friends comment that they hadn’t seen any new pics lately, which made me realize people do check in, and in the last month, have found me slacking.

So now I’m going to post the entire month’s worth all at once.  Maybe not in individual posts though.

:)

It was hot.

“It was hot.”

That deserves its own paragraph. What a lovely thing to say. We had a picnic with friends - plenty of pizza and playing and good company.

This was as the sun was getting low in the sky, making the clouds ridges of color and light.

Playing with the DOF

Been practicing with the MF (manual focus) on the new lens - it’s tricky! Thus, most of my shots suck. Not to mention that my D40 will not allow me to chose an auto setting for ISO in P mode? (WTF? - Help!) I swear it did just fine before? Gurg.

But I did like the DOF (depth of field) on this one - hopefully I’ll get more shooting done tomorrow. With the 70 degree temps! Wahooooooo.

{Project 365 - Day 14}

Curves and metal and sky

The underside of some playground equipment. Loved the color - the sky was a phenomenal blue.

My friend Maggie blogged today about how bogged down she was feeling. I could relate. I loved this passage -

“The weather, on the other hand, is falling all over itself to be helpful….. It’s like the strange storm never even happened to the sky. It doesn’t remember the clouds.”

{Project 365 - Day 13}

The ballet…..

Went to see the Peter Pan ballet today. Given that it was a matinee showing, the crowd was mostly families, and the collective gasp when Tinkerbell came on stage was priceless.

Hinu had fun in her princess-y dress, and I took advantage of the lovely light at the Overture to get some pics of her. She was willing to ham along for a bit at least.

{Project 365 - Day 12}

It’s almost like music…

I love watching these small birds - they move in unison and it seems to me almost what music would look like.

And what a gray day. Thoroughly depressing. But I like the clouds here!
